A Lack of Communication & Information
Milford's public schools provide an excellent level of education to our students. However, this comes at a cost. Ohio school
funding is interactive, requiring school districts to approach the voters for approval of additional funds, versus some other
states where the school board is able to dictate the amount needed with no community input.
As the MEVSD has grown, so has frustration among community members. Budgets and costs have skyrocketed, leading to a
significant increase in property tax. Many in our community simply cannot afford any more taxes - they will be forced out
if increases continue. Others are frustrated because of inefficiencies seen in spending by the District.
Still others have lost trust due to ongoing miscommunication and non-communication by the District. Inaccurate representations,
incomplete financial details, tactics seen as "punishing" the community for not passing levies, and refusal to engage
the community on its terms have led to anger and frustration.
NOBS was formed to represent Milford residents in their desire for more efficient, effective spending and open, honest
communication between the community and the school board/administration. We formed in May, 2006, following a failed 7.9-mill
levy. Since then, we have held information sessions on topics relating to school funding, options for reducing admimnistrative
cost, and how the District currently spends money. We are also working to identify ways for the District to be more efficient
by seeking to understand spending in a variety of areas.
This website will detail findings as we gather them, so you can make your own informed decisions about our school district
and its options.
