Recommendations for Improving Operations of the Milford Exempted Village School District

October, 2006

New Options for Better Schools has spent five months researching various aspects of MEVSD's operations. What we have found has been surprising and disturbing - from a lack of cooperation from school officials, to incomplete and inaccurate information, to a total non-understanding of financial management, to an unwillingness to look for ways to reduce costs that will NOT affect our children.

Based on the information gathered, NOBS developed a series of recommendations we believe will help make the MEVSD stronger and keep our excellence, while not bankrupting the community. These recommendations are presented in five sections: Financial, Building, Board/Management, Community, and State Level.

Every one of these recommendations comes from information gathered, problems identified during this process, and an understanding of what types of information is needed to run an organization with a $50 million+ budget.
